Keeping the Christian Orthodox Faith

+Archbishop James Salisbury Jr., OSB.

Greetings in the name of our Lord JESUS Christ,

A THOUGHT ON PREACHING:   Preach faith till you  have it; and then, because you have it, you will preach faith.  (John Wesley)

Keeping the Christian Orthodox Faith
In our day to day walk with each other  and with God we find keeping the faith in a world full of problems  a bit to much to take.  We often ask who can we trust, who will be faithful.  I often respond when asked this question “who moved?

THE GOSPEL READING
Luke 4:14-21

4:14 Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country.

4:15 He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.

4:16 When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read,

4:17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him.

GOSPEL LK 3:10-18

The crowds asked John the Baptist,
"What should we do?"
He said to them in reply,
"Whoever has two cloaks
should share with the person who has none.
And whoever has food should do likewise."
Even tax collectors came to be baptized and they said to him,
"Teacher, what should we do?"
He answered them,
"Stop collecting more than what is prescribed.

First Sunday of Advent

Gospel Lk 21:25-28, 34-36
Jesus said to his disciples:
"There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars,
and on earth nations will be in dismay,
perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves.
People will die of fright
in anticipation of what is coming upon the world,
for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
And then they will see the Son of Man
coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
But when these signs begin to happen,
stand erect and raise your heads
because your redemption is at hand.

God use ordinary people "St. John the Baptist."

Gospel Lk 3:1-6
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar,
when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea,
and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee,
and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region
of Ituraea and Trachonitis,
and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,
during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas,
the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert.

Elections and our Prayers

Greetings in the name of our Lord JESUS Christ,

A THOUGHT ON “The elections and our prays for the President and the country.”

This week we in America were blessed to have an election of for the President of the United States without a civil war in a very divided country.  Our churches in America tell the same story as the election for President.  At 11:00 on Sunday mornings we are just as divided between white and people of color.  Our African Orthodox Church was founded out of segregation by +Archbishop George Alexander McGuire.

The Blind Leading the Blind

A THOUGHT ON THE GOSPEL TODAY:

The Blind Leading the Blind.

SPIRITUAL MYOPIA   We are too near sighted. We see only those things within human-eye view.  We must become more far sighted...see beyond the physical to the spiritual--God's-eye view.  Lindy

I got to know a very wonderful old professor, Mr. Boris Dobro of Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California.  This professor taught me to see the things that most people just look at.

A THOUGHT ON THE GOSPEL TODAY:
Mark 10:17-31

10:17 As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

10:18 Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.

10:19 You know the commandments: 'You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honor your father and mother.
