When Christians Love Political Power More Than People

By Stephen Mattson [2] 6-20-2017

… the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me. (Matt. 4:8)
The idea of having power is so enticing that of all the theoretical options to destroy Christ, Satan chose the promise of ruling the world as his best and final temptation of Jesus in the desert.

Everybody Wants To Be Somebody

Everybody Wants to Be Somebody.

You have often seen my request to pray for our clergy, those who have more desire for positions of power than for the Sweet Holy Spirit of God.  Your prayers are needed daily throughout our churches in the world.   Kenneth L. Carder wrote the following:

Everybody wants to be somebody. Since the dawn of history, human beings have been trying to move up the scale of importance. The clincher used by the serpent to tempt Adam and Eve was "when you eat of [the tree of good and evil], your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil" (Gen.

Before we read the text for this morning I am going to ask you to do something a little different. I want you to listen to the reading not with a heart of faith but with a skeptical mind. If it helps, imagine that you do not know that Jesus is anything else but a teacher. You are a first century person who has just been introduced to him. [Read John 6:35, 41-51]

African bishops play a major role, for first time, at contentious Vatican summit

VATICAN CITY (RNS) The morning prayer that starts each session of a major gathering of Catholic churchmen underway here is an important chance for the 270 cardinals and bishops from around the world to set a meditative tone for what are contentious debates about church teachings on sexuality and family life.

With Pope Francis leading the way, the prelates seated in a large Vatican lecture hall chant the traditional Latin prayers, pausing near the end for a brief reflection on the day’s Scripture by one of the bishops at the meeting, known as a synod.

Leonard Sweet has given us an interesting insite concerning how we go about reaching out for help.  We are ready to send persons through the process in a safe correct manor.  As a former Social Worker working with the homeless and persons with addiction problems I had all of the many list to present for help.  In so many cases I was working with clients, who lives out their faith pulling their cross and crying out to our God.

"Loneliness."

Greetings,
The readings for this Sunday talk about a very lonely people.  The Gospel Reading:

Gospel MK 1:40-45

A lepercame to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said,
“If you wish, you can make me clean.”
Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand,
touched him, and said to him,
“I do will it. Be made clean.”
The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.
Then, warning the him sternly, he dismissed him at once.

He said to him, “See that you tell no one anything,
